Yiorgos Bereris is a Greek pianist and composer based in Rotterdam. His music is rooted in the folk traditions of Greece, the Balkans shaped by years of collaboration with musicians from across Europe and the East Mediterranean. With a lyrical, storytelling approach and a strong improvisational voice, he creates music that is both intimate and cross-cultural.
Yiorgos leads a dynamic trio with longtime collaborators Lambros Papanikolaou (bass) and Ektoras Remsak (drums). Together, they’re currently working on a new album, set to be released in spring 2026. His previous albums, Laros (2023) and Sigá y Silente (2024, with Lucas Zegrí), reflect his journey through folk-rooted melodies and open, exploratory soundscapes.
He’s performed widely across Europe and the U.S., both as a solo artist and as a sideman, with appearances at venues and festivals like the North Sea Jazz Festival, Athens Jazz Festival, Greek National Opera, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Vortex (London), Jamboree (Barcelona), JazzX (Timisoara), Boston Conservatory Theater, and the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.
Yiorgos also works in multidisciplinary contexts. In 2023, he composed and produced original music for two contemporary circus shows—La Campistany’s Peluda and Harvey Cobb’s Pink Boots and an Alcoholic Sock Puppet—which premiered at Festival Circolo (Tilburg), Cirque Mania (Korzo Theater), and Theater op de Markt (Belgium).
Born and raised in Athens, Yiorgos began playing music in his early teens. He studied jazz piano at the Ionian University under George Kontrafouris and completed his Master’s at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam in 2022. Along the way, he has collaborated with artists such as Kudsi Erguner, Kyriakos Sfetsas, Harris Lambrakis, Alba Careta, and Tereza Catarov.
